Seven crew members set out from Visakhapatnam on a fishing trip, but only one vessel returned safely. Six fishermen remain unaccounted for after the boat lost contact at 4:00 p.m. amid stormy weather. The YSRCP representative Vasupalli Ganesh blamed the state for failing to act on the July 3 weather warning, which should have prompted an immediate recall of all fishing boats. He argued that the authorities had sufficient knowledge of the fleet’s schedule and could have ensured safe passage. Ganesh demanded that the government provide a compensation of one crore rupees to each of the six families, emphasizing the need for accountability and better safety protocols for coastal fishermen.
