Kolkata’s law enforcers struck hard against thieves, detaining six people involved in separate robbery cases. The sweeps came during an unannounced tour by Commissioner Supratim Sarkar, focused on evaluating street-level security measures.
The bulk of arrests targeted a Gujarat-based quartet—Anil Ramju Salat, Dhiru Kalo Salat, Samir Salat, and Raju Kumar—nabbed in Hastings by Lalbazar’s elite Watch Branch. Their capture resolves a January 14 theft case at Jorasanko station, after weeks of relentless pursuit by detectives.
Concurrently, Park Circus yielded two more suspects: Entally locals Muhammad Shahnavaz (Sunny) and Muhammad Samir. Accused of rifling through a taxi driver’s car on January 20—pilfering phones and money—they were traced via Girish Park station’s FIR.
This synchronized action aligns with Sarkar’s mandate from a recent crime review session, mandating round-the-clock patrols in high-traffic zones. His hands-on Saturday patrol not only verified compliance but also catalyzed these timely detentions.
The operation highlights Kolkata Police’s evolving tactics against organized theft, blending intelligence with fieldwork. With interrogations underway, authorities aim to dismantle broader networks, reassuring residents of safer neighborhoods ahead.
