Sihani Gate Encounter: Two Accused Held, Both Shot in Legs
Two accused involved in fraud and snatching cases were arrested after a clash with police in Ghaziabad's Sihani Gate area on Friday night. Both men sustained bullet injuries in the legs and are currently receiving medical treatment.
Police said the arrests followed a planned operation based on specific intelligence. Information had been received that individuals linked to a previous fraud and snatching case were preparing to strike again.
The police team set up a checking point near the DPS school on Meerut Road. When two men on a scooter were asked to stop, they attempted to run away and opened fire on the team, according to officials.
Senior officer ACP Ziauddin Ahmad said the tip-off was received around 11 pm on Friday. He added that the police fired back in self-defence, resulting in injuries to both suspects in their feet.
The injured accused gave their names as Gaurav and Vivek. Police recovered two pistols, cartridges, and the scooty used during the incident from their possession.
According to police, the accused admitted during questioning that several cases were already pending against them. They also disclosed that they had been targeting victims in fraud and snatching incidents across the NCR.
The authorities are now collecting information about the criminal records of both men and verifying their involvement in earlier cases in the area. The legal process in the matter is ongoing.
