Siddique Murder Case: Wife Says Probe Lacks Real Intent

Shahzeen Siddique, wife of late NCP leader Baba Siddique, has raised serious doubts about the seriousness of the Mumbai Police in the murder investigation. She alleges that the police are performing only a formal exercise while using administrative roadblocks to shield arbitrary decisions.

Her lawyer, Trivankumar Karnani, said the Mumbai Police were making a show of action in the case. He stated that the state government had written to the Centre multiple times but had not received any response. Karnani argued that deliberate administrative delays could hamper the proceedings in the murder trial.

He further stated that the police knew courts could grant orders for questioning in jail and for custody through video conferencing. Despite these legal options, he said, the force was relying on administrative excuses to conceal its arbitrary approach.

Baba Siddique was shot dead on October 12, 2024, in Mumbai's Bandra East area. He was a leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP-Ajit Pawar faction) and had served as a minister in the Maharashtra government. He was shot by three attackers outside the office of his son, Zeeshan Siddique.

The case has been linked to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. In its chargesheet, the Mumbai Police identified Lawrence Bishnoi's brother, Anmol Bishnoi, as a wanted accused.

The allegations come as the Mumbai Police face scrutiny over an attack on the car of actor Tiger Shroff in Mumbai's Juhu area on September 18. Shroff narrowly escaped, though his driver and another person were injured in the firing. That attack was also connected to Lawrence Bishnoi.
