Shyamaprasad Mukherjee’s Legacy Highlighted at 125th Birth Anniversary

Tripura chief minister Manik Saha delivered a keynote address at a seminar held in Agartala to commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of Shyamaprasad Mukherjee, a stalwart of India’s freedom movement and a respected academic. Saha praised Mukherjee’s multifaceted achievements – as a patriot, scholar, parliamentarian and visionary statesman – that continue to motivate generations.

The chief noted that Mukherjee’s ascent to the vice‑chancellorship of Calcutta University at just 33 made him the youngest ever to hold the post, reflecting his exceptional intellect and leadership. Despite having the option of a comfortable personal life, Mukherjee chose to dedicate his talents to national service.

Saha also referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s persistent emphasis on youth as the country’s strongest asset, especially those aged 18‑40. He urged the audience to draw strength from Mukherjee’s example, to protect India’s rich cultural legacy, and to actively participate in nation‑building endeavors.
