Shocking Twist: Presumed Dead Woman Found Alive, Family Cleared of Murder

What began as a routine missing-person report in Jalgaon quickly spiraled into a sensational case of mistaken identity when police declared a charred body to be that of 26-year-old Shivani. Her father and brother were arrested for murder until the woman walked into a police station in Burhanpur, Madhya Pradesh, very much alive. Shivani and a man named Arun had disappeared in the first week of May. Their worried families filed complaints at Khaknar police station on 1 May and 9 May. Meanwhile, Jalgaon police found an unidentified headless body and, based solely on age and appearance, announced it was Shivani. Murder charges were added, and both her father Bapurao and brother Ajay were taken into custody. No DNA test was performed to confirm identity. The case collapsed when Shivani appeared before Burhanpur SP Ashutosh Bagdi and vouched for her relatives’ innocence. Biometric verification established beyond doubt that she was the missing woman. SP Bagdi immediately alerted Jalgaon police and transferred Shivani to their custody. The episode has triggered an internal review of how the original body was identified and why scientific protocols were bypassed.
