Shivshagar District Sees Major Reduction in Outages After Flood Damage
Shivshagar district in Assam is witnessing a notable decline in electricity outages after a series of flood‑related disruptions. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Monday that restoration work is progressing at pace, with dozens of transformers brought back online in the last day.
The power utility confirms that only 2,274 consumers remain without electricity, reflecting a 58 percent reduction compared with the immediate aftermath of the floods. All 33 kV transmission lines and the key 33/11 kV sub‑station are now operating without issues, and the 11 kV feeder grid is intact save for one feeder that stays shut due to an alternate sourcing arrangement.
Still, 61 distribution transformers awaiting re‑energisation are clustered in flood‑scarred zones. The most affected blocks are Sesha‑D2 (920 households), Gaurisagar (799 households), and Shivshagar ESD‑I (375 households). Najira accounts for 180 pending connections, whereas Amguri and Demo have reported full service restoration.
The floods that swept across upper Assam earlier this week caused extensive damage to electrical infrastructure, prompting the state to mobilise additional field teams. Officials assure residents that restoration activities will continue until power supply returns to normal across all affected areas.
