Shivpuri Set to Become Defence Manufacturing Hub as Adani Plant Inauguration Planned

Shivpuri is poised to join the ranks of India’s strategic defence manufacturing centres following the upcoming inauguration of an advanced Adani defence plant. The ₹2,500 crore complex will feature modern production lines for small arms, ammunition components and related systems.

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Sindhia will lay the foundation stone on July 5, marking a significant milestone for the region’s industrial landscape. The initiative reinforces the government’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ drive and dovetails with the state’s push for accelerated economic development.

The plant will complement the existing Adani Small Arms Manufacturing Complex in Gwalior, together creating a robust defence ecosystem across the Gwalior‑Chambal corridor. This synergy is expected to enhance India’s overall defence output capacity and reduce reliance on imports.

Projected employment figures indicate the creation of about 5,000 direct and indirect jobs. Moreover, the project opens avenues for local micro‑, small‑ and medium‑enterprises (MSMEs) to integrate into the defence supply chain, fostering regional industrial diversification.

The factory is slated to become fully operational within three years, adhering to a definitive schedule rather than a vague investment promise. Success stories such as the timely delivery of the ‘Prahar’ light machine gun from the Gwalior unit underline the group’s capability to meet defence procurement requirements.
