Sheikh Highlights Student Grief and Hunger Strike Fallout Amid Protests

Mumbai, July 20 – R.A. Sheikh, a member of the Socialist Party, underscored the deep personal toll of recent national protests, especially the anguish faced by students after the NEET examination paper leak. He said the incident has plunged millions of aspirants and their families into despair, with several tragic deaths directly linked to the crisis.

Sheikh argued that the government's inability to address key public concerns—education, youth employment and broader welfare—has forced people onto the streets in numerous states. He portrayed the protests as a collective outcry rather than a partisan rally, noting that citizens of varied political affiliations are rallying together.

The MLA also cited the hunger strike launched by activist Sonam Wangchuk, describing how the court‑ordered termination of the fast and the forced medical transfer have amplified public anger. According to Sheikh, these actions have further galvanized the protest movement.

Commenting on the security restrictions around the demonstration site, Sheikh warned that treating the area like a high‑security prison undermines democratic freedoms. He called for the central government to re‑evaluate its stance and open a direct dialogue with the protestors to address their grievances before the unrest escalates further.
