Shailby Hospital in Jabalpur Faces License Suspension Over Fire Safety Gaps
Jabalpur, Oct 14 — The Madhya Pradesh health authority has temporarily revoked the licence of Shailby Hospital after a fire incident exposed critical safety lapses.
The incident, which erupted in a semi‑private ward on October 11, prompted a swift inspection by health, municipal building, and fire officials. Their preliminary report highlighted a dead fire‑alarm system, blocked fire exits, and irregularities in the electrical panel configuration.
The department now awaits a comprehensive electrical safety audit and a fire‑risk evaluation from the municipal corporation before any reinstatement decision. Meanwhile, the hospital is prohibited from admitting new patients, and existing patients are being monitored closely for safe continuance of care or transfer.
Health officials indicated that compliance with the forthcoming audit recommendations will be the decisive factor for lifting the suspension.
