Shah Nawaz Hussain: Election Commission to Resolve TMC Leadership Count Dispute
New Delhi, July 4 – Following a violent exchange among Trinamool Congress leaders in West Bengal, the central government dispatched security forces to the region. On Saturday, BJP spokesperson Shah Nawaz Hussain told reporters that the debate over the number of TMC legislators, MPs, party workers and block‑level officials is an internal matter that only the Election Commission can settle. He asserted that the commission holds the constitutional right to decide which faction truly commands the party’s majority.
Hussain noted that one group within the TMC claims to possess the largest tally of elected representatives, thereby arguing it should be recognised as the genuine face of the party. He added that the Election Commission will make the definitive ruling, and the BJP will refrain from taking any stance.
The spokesperson also addressed the political turmoil in Punjab, stating that the Congress party there is in a severe state of disarray, with different leaders such as Raja Warin and Charanjit Singh Channi heading separate camps. He described the party as fragmented into multiple pieces.
Regarding calls for India‑Pakistan talks, Hussain cautioned that Pakistan’s designation as a terrorist‑sponsored nation must be kept in mind. He maintained that meaningful dialogue is only possible if Pakistan stops supporting terror, pointing out the paradox of a country that both spills blood and seeks diplomatic engagement.
