Shah Calls for Stronger Border Management as He Marks Independence Day

Union Home Minister Amit Shah used the occasion of Independence Day to stress the importance of an impenetrable border. Speaking in Siliguri, he recalled his regular participation in the flag‑hoisting ceremony at the Red Fort since 2015 and highlighted this year’s unique tribute – a full rendition of "Vande Mataram" celebrated worldwide on the 150th anniversary of the song and the 80th year of India’s freedom.

Shah linked the patriotic fervour to the need for vigilant border forces, urging that no infiltration should be tolerated. He praised the cultural legacy of Banik Chandra Chattopadhyay for inspiring the freedom struggle and lamented that "Vande Mataram" still does not receive full acceptance across the country.

The minister also paid homage to renowned shehnai maestro Ustad Bismillah Khan, recalling the artist’s joy in playing by the Ganges in the presence of Kashi Vishwanath. Shah’s remarks tied cultural pride to the broader theme of national security and border management.
