Sexual Exploitation of Minor Stepchild Punished with 30 Years

The Special Poxo Court of Shillong, presided over by Special Judge M.K. Lingdoh, convicted Teran Malliy for the rape of a minor step‑daughter, imposing a cumulative 30‑year rigorous imprisonment. The case, first filed in East Khasi Hills in 2020, was pursued under the POCSO Act’s Sections 4, 6, 8 and 10.

Judicial pronouncement included a ₹30,000 fine with a twenty‑year term for Section 4, a ₹40,000 fine with the maximum thirty‑year rigorous term for Section 6, a five‑year term and ₹10,000 fine for Section 8, and a seven‑year term with a ₹20,000 fine for Section 10. Non‑payment of each fine would lead to additional simple imprisonment ranging from one to three months.

The court considered the 3 years, 11 months and 28 days Malliy had already spent in detention, leaving an estimated 26 years still to be served.
