Seven Dead, Five Injured as Satyaniketank Building Crumbles: Rescue Efforts Detailed

A residential block in Delhi's Satyaniketank locality collapsed on September 6, leaving seven people dead and five more injured. The tragedy prompted a massive joint rescue mission involving the National Disaster Response Force, Delhi police, fire brigade, district administration and the health department.

First responders quickly cleared debris, pulling trapped occupants to safety and transporting them to nearby hospitals. Among the injured, three have been described as being in critical condition, requiring intensive care.

Preliminary investigations point to water accumulation in the building's basement a year ago, followed by hurried repair and renovation works that may have compromised structural integrity. The building also housed a pay‑and‑stay (PG) facility, managed by Hariram Gupta and his son Mahesh.

Police have confirmed that the electricity connection for the premises was in the names of the two Gupta family members, strengthening the link between the family and the day‑to‑day operations of the PG.

With the rescue phase now concluded, authorities state that no further persons are believed to be trapped under the rubble. The focus has shifted to a detailed forensic inquiry to assign responsibility and prevent similar incidents in the future.
