Series of mild earthquakes hit Maharashtra and Northeast India in October
October has seen a string of low‑to‑moderate magnitude earthquakes across different parts of India. On 3 October, Maharashtra’s Hingoli district recorded two tremors: a 3.3‑magnitude event at 7:46 AM and a second, slightly stronger shock later that day. Both originated near Gadhala village at depths around seven kilometres.
Earlier, on 26 September, Palghar district in Maharashtra experienced a 3.6‑magnitude quake just after 10:33 PM, with its focus roughly five kilometres underground. No damage or injuries were reported in either case.
Together with the recent northeastern tremors in Assam, Manipur and Meghalaya, the pattern highlights the need for continued vigilance and public awareness about seismic hazards in India.
