Senior Voter Card Update Ruse Leads to ₹8 Lakh Loss in Pune

A senior citizen from Pune’s Mundhwa locality fell prey to a sophisticated phishing scheme that masqueraded as an Election Commission verification process. The fraudster, posing as an EC officer, convinced the 78‑year‑old that his voter ID details did not match government records.

The culprit then shared a deceptive link, instructing the elderly man to fill in personal data. Once the link was clicked, the scammer accessed the victim’s mobile device, captured his banking credentials, and siphoned more than eight lakh rupees.

Police reports indicate the deception occurred over a three‑day window in early October. The case adds to a growing list of scams targeting older adults, prompting authorities to issue advisories on safe digital practices for senior users.
