Ranchi, July 21 – Tensions between the Jharkhand cabinet and the state bureaucracy have intensified, according to a senior BJP spokesperson who said the finance minister, Radha Krishna Kishore, has been exchanging formal letters with senior officers for the past month.
The correspondence, the spokesperson claimed, has already surfaced in public domains, exposing a breakdown in routine coordination between elected officials and administrative staff. He warned that if the dispute is not settled, it could have a cascading effect on the efficiency of the state’s governance structures.
He underscored the principle that both the executive and legislative branches have distinct responsibilities, yet must work in tandem. Persistent neglect of a senior minister’s concerns, coupled with Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s silence, sends a troubling message to lower‑level officials that they can operate without oversight.
According to the party official, the chief minister should have stepped in promptly to mediate the conflict. Instead, his inaction, the spokesperson argued, appears to grant senior bureaucrats a free pass, creating an impression that they are immune from accountability.
In a separate incident, the party’s state president tried to contact the Director General of Police via phone and WhatsApp but received no response, nor a subsequent call back. The spokesperson described this as a sign of disrespect toward elected representatives.
He reiterated that the chief minister must remind the bureaucracy of its constitutional limits and ensure that administrative actions remain within legally prescribed boundaries. Failure to do so, he warned, could lead to a loss of control over the state’s administrative apparatus.
The BJP also raised concerns about press freedom, noting reports that journalists were denied entry to a government project building. The spokesperson argued that such restrictions inhibit transparency and could damage the state’s democratic credentials.
The party concluded its statement by urging the chief minister to intervene, restore proper channels of communication, and protect the independence of the press.
