Security and Logistics Prioritized for Amarnath Yatra, Says LG
Manoj Sinha, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, arrived at the Nunwan base camp on Sunday, July 5, with senior officials to scrutinise the safety and logistical framework of the Amarnath pilgrimage.
He reviewed the pilgrim flow, security set‑ups, lodging conditions, and the pace of the registration process. The LG stressed that safeguarding pilgrims and ensuring their comfort must be the foremost concern for all departments involved.
Instruction was given to all officials to disseminate accurate information on the necessity of correct registration dates, aiming to trim waiting periods for devotees. In an official post, Sinha reassured pilgrims that the Shrine Board and associated agencies are working relentlessly to deliver a secure and seamless spiritual journey.
Since the trek commenced on July 3, more than 20,000 pilgrims have already completed the pilgrimage and are now departing for their home regions. The fourth yatra convoy counted 6,721 pilgrims, including men, women, children, ascetics, and foreign participants.
The Baltal convoy consists of 152 vehicles – 50 buses, 12 medium‑motor‑vehicles, and 90 light‑motor‑vehicles – while the Pahalgam convoy includes 139 vehicles – 84 buses, 25 MMVs, and 30 LMVs. The pilgrimage, spanning 57 days, will finish on August 28, coinciding with Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan.
Believers hold that the ice formation inside the high‑altitude cave temple at 3,880 metres represents Lord Shiva’s divine power.
