Secular Constitution Defended as Azmi Rejects Hindu Nation Demand

Addressing the growing calls for India to be declared a Hindu nation, Abu Asim Azmi reaffirmed the country's secular foundation. He emphasized that India’s constitution guarantees equal rights to Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians and all other communities.

Azmi warned that any demand that seeks to prioritize one religion over others violates the constitutional ethos. He cited the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, urging citizens to stand up for the secular values enshrined in the nation’s founding document.

The politician also referenced a previous controversy involving a group accused of advocating a Sharia‑based state, noting that similar rhetoric aimed at imposing a Hindu identity should be met with equal scrutiny.
