Seat piling proposed to protect collapsing Raghopur embankment on Ganga

Raghopur’s main flood‑control engineer, Jai Prakash, explained that seat piling has become the preferred technique to shield the eroded sections of the embankment and the populations living nearby. The damaged structure is an old railway dam situated directly on the Ganga’s bank.

By installing a continuous line of seat piles along the vulnerable stretch, authorities aim to stabilize the slope and prevent further collapse. The method offers a solid, quick‑to‑implement solution that can be executed while other repair works are being planned.

Officials believe that this approach, combined with ongoing monitoring, will buy critical time to carry out comprehensive restoration of the embankment.
