Science and Fisheries at Forefront as VP Radhakrishnan Visits Odisha
Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan is set to arrive in Odisha on July 9 for a program that places science and fisheries development side by side. The day will begin with a ceremony at the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology, where the Vice President will inaugurate the national launch of the Letter of Authority for sustainable offshore fish farming. This policy tool is designed to ensure that deep‑sea fishing activities are carried out responsibly, with scientific monitoring and biodiversity safeguards.
He will also formally launch the Odisha Deep Sea Fishing Mission, a strategic plan that encourages the adoption of modern aquaculture techniques, strengthens the organisational framework of the sector and aims to increase the earnings of coastal communities.
The afternoon agenda includes a visit to NISER in Khurda, where the Vice President will preside over the institute’s 15th convocation. He will award diplomas and medals, and speak about the importance of research, innovation and quality higher education in building the nation’s future.
The visit aligns with broader national priorities to boost the blue economy, protect marine habitats and elevate the role of research institutions in driving sustainable development.
