Satellite Data Powers Policy Making in Assam, Says CM
Assam’s chief minister announced that satellite‑derived information is now a cornerstone of the state’s policy‑making process. Through the Assam State Satellite Application Centre, more than 60 geospatial projects have been enacted in a five‑year window, covering everything from terrain mapping to risk forecasting.
These initiatives provide a factual basis for decisions on infrastructure development, natural‑resource oversight, emergency response, city expansion, agricultural productivity and environmental conservation. By leveraging remote‑sensing data and GIS platforms, the government can anticipate challenges and allocate resources more judiciously.
The rapid scaling of ASSAC’s activities signals a strategic shift toward evidence‑based governance. The chief minister highlighted that this approach enhances transparency, streamlines administrative procedures and aligns service delivery with the needs of citizens.
As Assam continues to integrate scientific tools into its routine operations, the state expects improvements in efficiency, accountability and overall public welfare.
