Sanjay Nishad Defends Uniform Civil Code Amid BJP Allegations

Sanjay Nishad, leader of the Apna Dal(K), responded to BJP criticism of the Uniform Civil Code by emphasizing constitutional guarantees of social justice. He argued that true equality can only be achieved through a single, gender‑neutral civil law that applies to every citizen, regardless of religion, caste, or gender.

Nishad questioned the suggestion that Muslim women are not voters and reiterated that the Constitution does not recognize religion as a barrier to civic rights. He cited the successful implementation of the UCC in Uttarakhand, Assam and Gujarat, where citizens reportedly welcomed the reform.

According to Nishad, opposing the UCC is contrary to the principles of equal protection and should be discouraged in all states.
