SAMARTH Hub to Offer Fab‑Ready Courses and Industry Partnerships

India’s semiconductor ambition is crystallising through projects like SAMARTH, the Silicon and Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing Research and Training Hub slated to open at IIT Gandhinagar.

With a combined budget of INR 190 crore, the centre will provide state‑of‑the‑art facilities, including nano‑fabrication equipment, CMOS process lines, and device characterization tools. A dedicated IC design and prototyping lab will enable learners to take concepts from schematic to silicon.

The hub’s curriculum is designed for three key audiences: engineering students seeking full‑time degrees, professionals looking for short‑term up‑skilling, and technicians aiming for specialized certifications. Over five years, SAMARTH will enrol 5,600 degree‑seeking students, train 1,500 technicians, and certify 1,000 short‑term participants. Faculty development programmes will benefit 230 teachers, while 230 industry experts will gain exposure to the latest research.

Partnerships with local and global semiconductor firms will provide internship slots, joint research projects, and guest‑lecture series. Such collaborations are expected to align academic output with real‑world manufacturing needs, creating a robust talent pipeline for Gujarat’s emerging chip fabs.

Prime Minister Modi’s remarks underscore the broader mission: building a complete semiconductor ecosystem that covers design, equipment, materials, and logistics. SAMARTH is positioned as a cornerstone of that ecosystem, delivering the skilled workforce essential for India’s India Semiconductor Mission 2.0.
