Safety Lapses Alleged in Murshidabad Accident, Opposition Demands Action
In a heartfelt message posted on X, Trinamool Congress’s national secretary Abhishek Banerjee condemned the Murshidabad incident and questioned the efficacy of existing railway safety mechanisms. He asked whether the collision was the result of neglected maintenance, insufficient signalling infrastructure, or an overall lax attitude within the railway administration.
Banerjee urged the central government to take responsibility and to ensure that families of the deceased receive swift justice. He highlighted the need for stricter compliance with safety norms and for an independent probe that holds every negligent official accountable.
By stating that the people of West Bengal deserve a "double‑engine" government that truly protects them, Banerjee positioned the tragedy as a litmus test for political will and administrative competence.
