Smart Infrastructure and Accessibility Features Added to Sabarmati Station
The revamped Sabarmati railway station will host an integrated smart‑building system that combines SCADA and BMS to manage lighting, climate, security and passenger information in real time. CCTV cameras, public address announcements, access‑control doors, and an IT backbone will be centrally monitored, delivering live updates on train schedules, arrivals and platform changes.
A total of 28 lifts and 28 escalators are being installed, each equipped with Braille panels, guide tiles and clear directional signage. Ticketing will be streamlined through disability‑friendly counters and automated ticket‑vending machines, while additional drinking‑water facilities will improve overall hygiene.
The platforms will be fully roofed, with skylights planned to maximise natural light, reducing energy consumption. The station’s roof stands at approximately 20 metres, and the overall built‑up area exceeds 3.2 million square feet, providing ample space for passenger amenities and future expansions.
