In a powerful address at the Global Economic Cooperation Summit in Mumbai, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar outlined India’s strategy to thrive through adversity. Hosted from February 17 to 19, the summit unites global representatives to discuss trade diplomacy, investments, and the evolving geo-economic landscape.
Backed by the Future Economic Cooperation Council (FECC), the Ministry of External Affairs, and Maharashtra authorities, the event spotlights India’s proactive global role. Jaishankar posted on X from the opening ceremony with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, reaffirming India’s commitment to power up during tough times.
He spotlighted the government’s dynamic, pragmatic policies centered on public welfare, which cement India’s status as a dependable ally. These initiatives are driving robust economic growth and strategic collaborations, as seen in fresh trade pacts.
Jaishankar reflected on seismic global changes: ‘We’re witnessing the clear dismantling of the existing world order. Crafting a replacement is no easy task; instead, it seems we’re drifting toward uncertainty—fraught with risks we’ve already glimpsed in various corners of the globe.’
Old and new orders will overlap, he noted, with politics and security overshadowing economics during election cycles. Technology, especially AI, will prove more disruptive than ever.
To counter global headwinds, India is ramping up its capacities, tackling growth challenges decisively, and addressing immediate pressures alongside future prospects. ‘Reforms will continue unabated, reshaping supply chains and demand patterns,’ Jaishankar affirmed. This fortified stance enables deeper ties with partners, elevating India’s influence in production, services, tech innovation, skilled labor, and talent pools worldwide.
As discussions unfold on critical economic issues, Jaishankar’s vision positions India as a beacon of stability and opportunity.
