Rs 8,941 Crore Yamuna Projects Launched in Shyam Nagar

Delhi's government has reaffirmed its pledge to restore the Yamuna, with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stating that the city will be able to give residents a cleaner river. Her remarks came after she attended the inauguration and foundation laying of Yamuna rejuvenation projects.

The Chief Minister said the schemes, worth roughly Rs 9,000 crore, were designed to address the long-standing needs of every Delhi resident. She listed sewer line laying, water treatment plant installation, connection of sewer lines with sewage treatment plants, and construction of new treatment plants among the key components.

Gupta highlighted the completion of the Chandrawal project, which had been held up for years, as a major accomplishment. She pointed to steady progress over the government's first 1.5 years and said work on the river's restoration has now firmly begun.

According to her, the Yamuna should be clean and flowing freely within a few years. She said the government is working day and night to keep its word.

In a post on X, Gupta expressed gratitude to Amit Shah for the launch of 43 projects worth more than Rs 8,941 crore at Shyam Nagar. She said these works will create new sewage treatment plants, upgrade existing ones, widen the sewer network and improve drainage, reducing the flow of untreated waste into the river.

Gupta said the government has resolved to make the Yamuna clean and that this is both a promise to citizens and a responsibility for future generations. She credited the vision of Prime Minister Modi and the Home Minister's continued cooperation.

Delhi Jal Board projects worth Rs 8,941 crore were inaugurated or had foundation stones laid, Minister Parvesh Verma said. The work covers sewer connections, new sewer lines and decentralised sewage treatment plants, and leading water and sewer companies are now working in Delhi.
