Jammu and Kashmir’s Crime Branch has cracked down on a brazen MBBS admission scam, slapping a comprehensive chargesheet on two Karnataka-based fraudsters. The duo swindled Rs 13 lakh from a local student by dangling the carrot of a guaranteed medical college seat.
What started as a dream for the victim turned into a nightmare when the promised admission failed to materialize. A swift investigation exposed the elaborate con, involving fabricated offer letters and assurances of insider pull in Karnataka colleges.
Police raids and cyber forensics played a pivotal role in nabbing the perpetrators. Their modus operandi included initial small payments to build trust, followed by demands for larger sums under pretexts like ‘donation fees’ and ‘processing charges’.
This expose comes amid rising reports of similar rackets exploiting NEET aspirants. Experts point to opaque management quota systems as a key enabler for such crimes.
The detailed chargesheet lists 15 witnesses, including bank officials and college staff who confirmed the forgeries. The accused are now in judicial custody, with the court likely to delve into the full extent of their operations.
Parents and students are advised to stick to centralized counseling processes. This case underscores the need for stricter oversight on private medical admissions to protect vulnerable families investing their life savings.
