The ancient city of Ujjain came alive with spiritual energy as the Mahakaleshwar Temple celebrated Ganga Dussehra with an elaborate Bhasma Aarti. Devotees packed the temple premises to watch Lord Mahakala transform into a majestic king, complete with a crescent moon and trident on his forehead. The day began with the customary opening of the sanctum after receiving consent from Lord Veerbhadra, followed by elaborate ablutions performed by the Mahanirvani Akhada. The deity was then offered Panchamrit and dressed in royal attire using bhang, sandalwood paste, dried fruits, and ornate jewelry. During the Bhasma Aarti, the temple resonated with sacred chants and the sound of bells, creating an atmosphere charged with devotion. The three-tiered temple structure, featuring Mahakaleshwar at the base, Omkareshwar in the middle, and Nagchandreshwar at the top, witnessed record footfall. The sacred ash, prepared from specific sacred woods instead of cremation remains, was offered with deep reverence. Pilgrims described the experience as deeply moving, with many waiting patiently for their turn to receive the divine blessings of Mahakala.
