Routine Checkpoint, Not Arrest, Behind Jantar Mantar Food Carrying Incident

NEW DELHI, July 24 – The Delhi Police has provided a detailed explanation regarding the recent viral claim that three youths were detained for transporting food to the Jantar Mantar protest area. The statement, released by the Deputy Commissioner of Police for the South‑East district, describes the incident as a standard security checkpoint exercise rather than a punitive arrest.

The vehicle in question was halted under the city’s routine verification protocol, designed to confirm the identity of occupants and ascertain their travel plans. While police officers were checking identification cards, the driver continued onward with the vehicle and the food supplies.

According to the police, the youths later informed investigators that the items were intended for the demonstrators at the protest site. No obstruction or coercion occurred, and the officers’ conduct adhered strictly to prescribed procedural guidelines.

The department labeled the circulating claim as "false and misleading," asserting that it attempts to mischaracterise ordinary police duties. Officials urged citizens to rely on official statements rather than unverified social media posts.
