Rohini Ghawri quits Swiss career, returns to India to press criminal case against MP
Dr. Rohini Ghawri Rao, a Dalit activist and academic, abandoned a promising career in Switzerland to come back to India and file a petition at the Rajouri Avenue Court seeking an FIR against MP Chandrasekhar Azad. In a media interaction, Rao explained that she left her overseas position because she believed her presence among her community and before a judge would amplify her grievance.
She recounted the timeline of events, beginning with an alleged exploitation on August 6, 2025, and highlighted that she has been waiting for 18 months for the authorities to act. Ghawri accused the police of ignoring her pleas, citing a 12‑hour detention at Parliament Street Police Station followed by a similar hold at the Airport Police Station.
Her lawyer, Asish Das, warned that without a registered FIR, any inquiry would lack legal standing, and urged the court to compel the police to move forward without further delays.
