Roadblocks and Police Lines Set Up Ahead of BJP March to Civil Secretariat

Ahead of a planned Bharatiya Janata Party procession from Lal Chowk to the Civil Secretariat, the Srinagar police have erected extensive barricades and deployed a thick cordon of officers along the route. The march is being organized as a response to the National Conference’s call for a peaceful siege of the BJP office.

Authorities have shut down several streets in the Jawahar Nagar area, stopping all vehicular traffic to the BJP headquarters. Similar restrictions are in force on the arterial roads that connect the city’s commercial and residential zones to the protest sites.

The security deployment includes additional squads in Rajbag, Wazirbag and other strategic neighbourhoods to monitor crowd movements and intervene quickly if tensions flare. Despite the visible presence of law‑enforcement, BJP leaders and volunteers have gathered at Lal Chowk, ready to begin the demonstration.

The protest underscores the opposition’s criticism of the NC government for allegedly failing to deliver on promises made during the 2024 elections, such as job opportunities, free electricity and improved governance.
