RLD chief and BJP ministers condemn perceived disrespect to Jats

New Delhi – The recent "chavanni" remark by Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav has ignited a firestorm of condemnation from both the Rashtriya Lok Dal and the Bharatiya Janata Party. RLD chief Jayant Chaudhary took to X to criticize the low‑brow nature of the comment, urging that any political discourse should avoid targeting entire communities.

Chaudhary highlighted that the Jat community, which forms a significant voter base for the RLD, deserves respect, especially given its historical association with former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh. He warned that belittling the community could lead to political fallout.

BJP MP Dinesh Sharma added that labeling Chaudhary’s grandson as a "chavanni" is an insult to the whole Jat fraternity. Sharma emphasized that the community’s contributions to agriculture and national development must be honored, not mocked.

Uttar Pradesh minister Narendra Kumar Kashyap concluded that Akhilesh Yadav’s statements reflect an inflated ego that threatens the harmony of coalition politics. He called for a swift apology and cautioned that further disrespect will have tangible consequences for the Samajwadi Party’s standing in the state.
