RJD Lawmaker Osama Shahab Gets Bail in Jhunaipur Land Case

The Patna High Court on Tuesday awarded anticipatory bail to Osama Shahab, the RJD representative from Sivaan’s Raghunathpur constituency, concerning a land‑ownership conflict in Jhunaipur village.

The dispute arose after Sudha Singh and Vinay Kumar Singh, residents of Gopalganj, filed an FIR on 15 April 2026 alleging that Shahab blocked construction on a parcel they had bought in September 2024 and claimed it as his own. They reported receiving intimidation calls, followed by a large group that allegedly assaulted laborers, destroyed CCTV cameras and confiscated a mobile phone and a cutter.

Police FIRs implicate Shahab, two associates named Farhan and Sabir, and 30‑35 unidentified individuals. After a local court rejected Shahab’s anticipatory bail request on 28 April 2026, he turned to the Patna High Court.

The high court ordered the police to produce the case diary and placed an interim freeze on his arrest. Prior to this, a police team led by SDPO Ajay Kumar Singh visited Shahab’s home in the Kotwali area of Patna, but he was absent; his aides presented the court’s protection order.

In his defense, Shahab stated that the contested land had been registered in his wife Aisha’s name in January 2023, and that the construction halt was due to an existing ownership dispute already before the courts. He added that a later sale deed in favor of the Singh couple reignited the controversy.

After hearing both parties, the Patna High Court granted anticipatory bail, converting the interim relief into a formal bail order, provided Shahab complies with the conditions. The police investigation continues, and further legal steps will follow according to statutory procedures.
