Riyas Calls New ED Claims Against Him a Fabricated Plot

P. A. Mohammad Riyas, a senior CPI(M) leader and husband of former Chief Minister’s daughter T. Vina Vijayyan, has dismissed recent Enforcement Directorate allegations as a “fabricated plot.” The ED’s recent letter to the Kerala police chief claims that a diary belonging to Vina contains hawala transaction records and that the couple used a 16‑member WhatsApp group to coordinate money‑laundering activities.

According to the ED, the diary was seized during a May 27 raid on a rented home in Thiruvananthapuram where Vina was staying with her father. The agency says the documents show evidence of money being sent abroad via hawala channels and that a resident of Koduvalli may also be involved.

Riyas argued that the claims are deliberately engineered to damage his family’s image. He pointed out that Vina was interrogated three times without a single question about hawala, and that the ED’s disclosures appeared on the same day the CPI(M) state conference concluded.

He described the allegations as a “perfectly scripted drama,” suggesting those behind it deserve a national award for best screenplay. Riyas assured that the party will meet the accusations in court and stated he is unafraid of any legal repercussions.

The revelations have heightened political tension for the CPI(M) as it navigates internal discussions and external scrutiny during its three‑day state conference.
