Ritabrata Banerjee’s Rebel Group Gains Legislative Backing Ahead of Student Council Day

Ritabrata Banerjee’s breakaway camp has secured the support of roughly 60 Trinamool legislators, earning him the official title of opposition leader in the state assembly. This institutional endorsement was on display during the July 21 rallies, held on the same day the party commemorates its Martyrs’ Day, a ceremony remembering the 1993 police firing on Youth Congress volunteers.

The next confrontation is slated for August 28, the anniversary of the Trinamool Congress Student Council. Both factions are planning elaborate events to capture the loyalty of student activists, a key factor in shaping the party’s future direction.
