Renewables Propel India to World’s Third Largest Clean Energy Capacity

Clean energy has become a cornerstone of India’s power strategy. By 31 March 2026, non‑fossil generation capacity reached 283.46 GW, comprising 274.68 GW of renewable sources and 8.78 GW of nuclear power. This places India behind only China and the United States in total renewable capacity, according to the International Renewable Energy Agency’s 2026 statistics.
