Reddy Urges Teachers to Champion Skills, Targets Global Standards

Telangana’s Chief Minister A. Revant Reddy used a Thursday meeting with a group of teachers, who had recently visited Finland and Germany, to rebut the opposition’s call for him to quit as education minister. He asked whether the outcry was due to the introduction of school‑breakfast programs, the overhaul of teacher recruitment and promotion processes, or the transformation of traditional ITIs into Advanced Technology Centers.

He highlighted the establishment of a Skill University designed to equip students with industry‑relevant abilities and disclosed that leaders of prominent global corporations have been invited to serve on its board. The CM pointed out that the state invests Rs 1.08 lakh per student in government schools, a financial commitment that has drawn more than one lakh new enrollments.

Reddy emphasized that education today must go beyond textbook knowledge to include practical skill acquisition. He called on teachers to instill in their pupils a comprehensive understanding of the world after class 12, urging a shift of focus from the United States to nations such as Germany, Japan and Singapore, which provide abundant growth prospects.

The Chief Minister appealed for teachers to devote five years to societal service, stating that they are pivotal in shaping the future of the next generation. He requested actionable suggestions to turn Telangana into a role model for the country and set a deadline of December for a report that will outline priorities for the forthcoming academic year.

He expressed confidence that the Congress will continue to govern the state until 2034 and pledged that the administration will meet any financial demands necessary for students. Reddy also announced that teachers will soon have opportunities to travel abroad for advanced studies, mirroring the pathways available to IAS and IPS officers.
