Reddy Accuses Naidu of Propaganda on Mavigun Issue

Tensions boiled over in Andhra Pradesh politics Tuesday when Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, ex-Chief Minister and YSRCP chief, lambasted N. Chandrababu Naidu for failing to engage politically with his ‘Mavigun’ capital corridor proposal. Instead, Reddy claimed, Naidu is fueling a campaign of disinformation through sympathetic media channels.

The trigger was a TV debate on a Telugu news network where panelists allegedly used sexist slurs against women. Reddy condemned this vehemently on social media, calling out the channel’s managing director directly. He argued that involving women in such crude rhetoric deviates from healthy political critique and dishonors democratic norms.

‘We strongly denounce these comments as a deliberate ploy to demean women and derail public discourse,’ Reddy declared. The core issue, he insisted, remains Naidu’s inability to rebut Mavigun – the integrated development plan for Machilipatnam, Vijayawada, and Guntur – forcing reliance on mudslinging.

YSRCP activists responded with a disciplined demonstration at Hyderabad’s ABN Andhra Jyoti headquarters, seeking accountability without resorting to violence. Reddy highlighted this as proof of their democratic ethos.

Adding fuel to the fire, Reddy pointed fingers at TDP’s Nara Lokesh and JSP’s Pawan Kalyan for backing the offensive remarks, terming it reflective of their character. He urged immediate punitive measures against the media executive, stressing that tolerance of such behavior erodes societal values.

Background: Reddy’s Mavigun pitch emerged as a counter to Naidu’s Amaravati project, sparking intense capital relocation debates. This clash reveals stark media polarization in Andhra politics, where opposition proposals meet fierce pushback. As Reddy pushes for accountability, Naidu’s camp remains tight-lipped, potentially escalating the standoff ahead of key state developments.
