Rawat Quits Party Roles Citing Need to Preserve Congress Fight

Harish Rawat, a veteran Congress figure and ex‑CM of Uttarakhand, announced his withdrawal from the state party executive and the national Congress committee on Saturday. The announcement was prompted by a high‑profile raid on his former OSD, Chandan Singh Gina, that recovered significant cash and jewellery. Rawat said he would not allow any personal controversy to weaken the Congress’s struggle in the upcoming assembly elections. He dismissed the allegations against his associate, praised the party’s anti‑corruption drive led by Rahul Gandhi, and recounted his efforts to reform the Uttarakhand Subordinate Service Selection Commission, which oversaw the recruitment of thousands of civil servants.
