Coordinated Security and Relief Efforts Enable Safe Rath Yatra Despite Flood‑Like Weather

The success of the 2026 Rath Yatra in Puri was largely credited to a multi‑layered administrative framework that mobilised police, health services, fire‑fighting squads, the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force and the National Disaster Relief Force.

Each agency worked in tandem to monitor crowd movement through CCTV, control traffic, maintain cleanliness and provide immediate medical aid. Portable toilets, drinking water kiosks and designated shelters were set up to mitigate the impact of the relentless rain.

Medical teams treated several pilgrims for dehydration, fatigue and minor injuries. Seven individuals required hospitalization, and two senior devotees succumbed to health complications, prompting a swift investigation into the causes.

State officials emphasized that the incident management plan functioned without a single breach in crowd‑control protocols, ensuring that the sacred journey of the chariots proceeded peacefully.
