From Rang Ghar to Kamakhya: Assam's Architectural Evolution Highlighted
Chief Minister Himanta Biswas Sarma used World Architecture Day to trace Assam’s architectural journey from its ancient Ahom constructions to present‑day developments.
He emphasized that structures such as the two‑storey Rang Ghar in Shiv Sagar and the iconic Kamakhya Temple on Nilanchal Hill remain central to the state’s identity. These sites illustrate the blend of artistic skill and religious devotion that has shaped Assam’s built environment.
The CM asserted that modern infrastructure projects are being designed to acknowledge this lineage. Contemporary public places are incorporating clean lines and innovative materials while preserving the visual language of historic edifices.
Efforts are also underway to boost tourism by upgrading roads, visitor centers, and signage near heritage landmarks, all while safeguarding their authenticity. Sarma’s statements reaffirm a policy that sees development and preservation as mutually reinforcing goals.
