Hotel Manager Killed in Ranchi; Pithoria Residents Block Highway
A hotel manager's murder in Ranchi's Pithoria police station area has led to public anger and a long traffic blockade. On Friday evening, locals and family members of the deceased blocked Pithoria Chowk, calling for the arrest of the killers and fair compensation for the family.
The blockade left vehicles queued for long distances in both directions. Traffic remained badly affected until local police officers stepped in, about two hours after the protest began.
The man killed was Baleshwar Gorai, who managed operations at Krishna Hotel in Pithoria. Late on Thursday night, he was attacked with a sharp weapon. He had finished work and was on his way home when unknown attackers struck him near the Karkatta turn on the Pithoria-Thakurgaon road.
Gorai died as a result of the assault. His family grew worried when he failed to return home overnight and started searching for him.
On Friday morning, his body was found lying in a pool of blood on the roadside. The killing soon spread through the area, and residents expressed strong resentment.
Protesters said the road would remain blocked until the people behind the murder were arrested and the victim's family received a clear assurance of compensation. They also asked police to solve the case without delay.
Gorai was originally from Purulia district in West Bengal. For roughly 20 years, he had been employed at hotels in the Pithoria area. After getting the information, Pithoria police reached the site, took the body into custody, and sent it for postmortem.
Police are investigating the cause of the murder and looking for those involved. The reason behind the killing has not yet become clear.
