Ramlila Maidan Rally: Security, Traffic and Crowd Plans Detailed

Ahead of Sunday's 'Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao' rally by the opposition INDIA bloc at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi, police have announced a wide-ranging set of security, crowd and traffic measures. The rally has been called to oppose Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, allegations of vote theft and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.

DCP Rohit Rajbir Singh outlined how the force plans to handle the event. He said the operation includes arrangements at the venue, along with a route plan for the march scheduled to move from Minto Bridge through JLN Marg to Chaman Lal Marg.

Venue capacity and crowd control

The DCP said the venue's internal capacity stands at roughly 45,000 to 50,000 people. Should attendance go beyond that figure, authorities will need to manage the overflow on the surrounding roads, including Jawaharlal Nehru Marg, Asaf Ali Marg and Chaman Lal Marg, so that no stampede-like situation develops inside.

Coordination with organisers

Rejecting complaints from Congress and other opposition parties that the police were uncooperative, the DCP said the relationship between the force and the organisers has been constructive. Multiple meetings were held during the week, he said, and he expressed confidence that the organisers would describe the cooperation in similar terms.

Buses, parking and pedestrian safety

For buses travelling from different states, designated stops have been set up in consultation with the traffic police, including at Rajghat Depot and Delhi Gate. Police want to keep buses and four-wheelers away from areas with heavy foot traffic, citing accident risks. Specific parking spaces have been allotted for these vehicles, and pedestrian access will remain open to all.

Law and order

Joint CP Madhur Verma said an officer-centric system has been introduced to maintain law and order, regulate traffic and minimise disruption for ordinary citizens. He assured that the safety of all those coming to take part in the protest will receive full attention.
