In a joyous ceremony filled with ‘Har Har Mahadev’ slogans, a brand-new special train service connecting Rajkot to the holy Somnath Temple was inaugurated today, operating for the next four days to accommodate rising pilgrim footfall.
The four-day special, announced by Western Railway, addresses the overwhelming rush of Lord Shiva devotees heading to Somnath amid the holy month. Rajkot, serving as a vital gateway to Saurashtra’s spiritual hubs, now offers direct connectivity, reducing travel hassles significantly.
Scheduled to run daily, the train kicks off from Rajkot Junction at 10:30 AM, halting at prominent stations including Maliya Hatina, Jetalsar, and Una, before culminating at Somnath by 7 PM. Equipped with 20 coaches including sleeper and AC classes, it promises a smooth ride with all essential facilities.
The launch event drew crowds of excited pilgrims, who filled the air with devotional fervor. Railway divisional manager praised the timely intervention: ‘Our special trains are designed to prioritize pilgrim safety and comfort during peak seasons.’
This service not only aids spiritual journeys but also stimulates tourism in coastal Gujarat. Somnath, revered as the first Jyotirlinga, attracts lakhs annually, and enhanced rail links are set to amplify this influx.
Passengers are urged to secure bookings promptly through official channels. With Shravan approaching, expect heightened demand as families plan their sacred trips. The resounding chants at Rajkot station marked the perfect start to this divine rail venture.
