Rajasthan Tragedy: Broken 11 kV Line Sets Motorbike Ablaze, Relatives Demand Rs 5 Million
An 11 kV high‑tension line collapsed onto a country road near the Bhopar River in Karoli, Rajasthan, resulting in a fatal accident that claimed three lives. The broken line struck a motorbike being ridden by daily‑wage labourers, instantly electrifying the vehicle and igniting a fire.
The victims – Rambabu, 45, his nephew Vishnu, 22, and Chaube Jatav, 44 – were identified by the local police. All three were residents of the nearby Akhada village and were returning home after work on Monday evening. Despite intervention from locals who attempted to douse the blaze with soil, the electrical shock proved fatal on the spot.
The bereaved families have set up an 18‑hour sit‑in at the accident site, rejecting any attempts to move the bodies for post‑mortem procedures. Their demands are clear: a compensation sum of ₹5 million for each deceased and a guaranteed government job for a member of each affected household.
The police have taken the power department’s feeder in‑charge off duty while a detailed probe is conducted. Senior officials, including the DSP, the Sub‑Divisional Magistrate, and nearby MLAs, have visited the protest camp, promising to convey concerns to higher authorities. However, the families maintain that no written commitment on compensation or employment will end the demonstration.
