Rajasthan’s Strict Paper‑Leak Penalties Highlight Gap with Centre’s Proposal

Rajasthan has enacted a stringent anti‑paper‑leak statute that imposes fines between ten lakh and one hundred crore rupees along with a life‑sentence provision. This contrasts sharply with the Union’s draft bill, which limits imprisonment to ten years.

Congress leader Tikaram Juhi said the state law’s firmness has already prevented the filing of a case in the Seeker incident, sending the probe directly to the CBI. He argued that the central legislation’s weaker penalties could encourage future violations.

Juhi urged the central government to adopt Rajasthan’s tougher framework, reminding officials of the promise to set up fast‑track courts for such offences.

He warned that without stronger deterrents, the integrity of examinations could be compromised across the country.
