A devastating road accident in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur district has resulted in the tragic loss of 18 lives and left numerous others injured. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his deepest sympathies to the families affected by this calamity. In a statement, the Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that financial assistance will be provided to the victims’ families. Rs. 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) will be given to the next of kin of each deceased individual. Additionally, injured victims will receive Rs. 50,000 to aid in their recovery.
The accident occurred near the Matoda area in the Phalodi subdivision, approximately 160 km from Jodhpur city. A tempo traveller carrying devotees collided with a stationary trailer truck. The collision was severe, causing extensive damage to the tempo traveller and trapping passengers. Emergency services and local authorities responded swiftly, working with community members to rescue the injured and transport them to nearby medical facilities.
Authorities are investigating the precise cause of the accident, with initial suspicions pointing towards factors such as poor visibility, high speed, and potential mechanical issues like brake failure or driver fatigue. The victims were reportedly returning from a religious event in Bikaner at the time of the incident.
