Government Job Share and Self‑Employment Patterns Among Rajasthan’s OBC Groups

Rajasthan’s OBC survey offers a stark picture of employment distribution across communities. Out of an estimated 3.92 lakh OBC government employees, the Jat, Gurjar, Saini and Yadav groups together account for roughly 78 percent of the total. In contrast, 18 smaller OBC communities each have fewer than one hundred members in the public sector, underscoring a wide disparity in governmental representation.

Self‑employment is a significant livelihood source for 12.5 lakh OBC individuals. Kumhar‑Kumawat lead with 124,000 entrepreneurs, closely followed by Jats (121,000) and the Mali‑Saini alliance (115,000). The Jangid community also features prominently with 85,114 self‑employed persons. Labor‑intensive occupations and daily‑wage work see substantive participation from Kumhar‑Kumawat and Saini groups.

These figures suggest that while some OBC sections have secured a firm foothold in public services and business, others remain marginalised, reinforcing the need for targeted reservation and skill‑development initiatives ahead of the elections.
